“It’s Normal for Some Things to Come to Your Attention”
Live film and sound by SUE-C & Co. + Negativland
Tuesday, March 23 at 9:30 p.m.
Free, live-streaming performance via YouTube
Legendary San Francisco multimedia group Negativland teams up with renowned international live cinema artist SUE-C to bring you a streaming audiovisual performance about our nervous systems, our realities, and the evolving forms of media and technology that inevitably insert themselves between them.
Continuing on the trajectory of their 2019 EU tour, SUE-C collaborates with husband Kevin Slagle to bring an expanded version of her signature style to the performance using multiple cameras, video loops, handmade paper, photo collage, shiny things and other magical objects — all processed in her custom software. “Everything is live and in the moment. Kevin brings a whole new world of content to my work and this performance,” she says.
Original music, found sounds, uniquely organic visuals, manipulated media, Boopers, and a few surprises are in store.
This virtual event is presented by Saganworks and the Ann Arbor Film Festival as part of In The Screen! a series aimed to foster meaningful conversations about the culture of the moving image.
Curators and artists like myself have found creative, socially-distanced ways of sharing art digitally via live streaming and social media. Likewise, the 58th annual Ann Arbor Film Festival is presenting performances through an online virtual gallery and in-person via window installations viewable from the street.
